People Like Us – STEM careers

Challenge: How can you be what you can’t see? Many young people are put off working in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths) because they cannot imagine someone like themselves in a similar job. Presenting role models who look like them, have similar issues or backgrounds and who have a job they love is key. Solution: People Like Us is a free online resource for students aged 9 – 14, presenting people working in ordinary STEM-related careers, many of whom have overcome childhood challenges at home or at school. It comes with student activities and teacher resources in the ‘staffroom’ section of the platform. What we did: Astin Consulting advised the client on the overall focus of this STEM resource for schools, and produced all the student and teacher resources to accompany it, linked to STEM curricula and careers education.
