This month’s topic is MUSIC PARTNERSHIPS. The disparity of music provision across the sectors is stark. Music education in state schools has been severely challenged for many years but some cross-sector projects are making an impact. In this Breakfast Briefing we’ll hear from some practitioners who will share tips on how to grow a successful and sustainable music partnership.
I am delighted to be joined by Simon Toyne, Executive Director of Music of the David Ross Educational Trust and former President of the Music Teachers Association. Simon was instrumental (sorry!) in drafting the National Plan for Music Education and is passionate about independent-state school partnerships being part of the future for school music. We’ll also hear from Julie Evans, Head of Music Partnerships at The King’s School, Canterbury, directs Sounding Out, its flagship music partnerships project whereby local primary children are given musical instruments, small group lessons and musicianship training. Sam Gladstone will also share tips from Radley College, where he has established a partnership called Music Flood.
